WFP's organizational decentralisation has brought new challenges to VAM in managing its multiple decentralized spatial analysis capabilities and databases. In response, VAM is adopting an "enterprise" approach to managing geographic information that is referred to as the VAM Spatial Information Environment (SIE).
The VAM Spatial Information Environment (SIE) is a VAM-led initiative to provide the WFP spatial data user community with a better ability to analyse and represent spatial information.
An SIE forum is defining common technical skills and tools for using spatial information, and promotes community problem solving.
SIE efforts underway include a standardisation of cartographic representation, and a collaborative effort to increase access to original and derived spatial information within WFP and with information partners.
