In October 2016, WFP began to monitor food security and market conditions in Afghanistan through remote data collection using the mVAM (mobile Vulnerability Analysis and Mapping) approach. Five types of mVAM surveys are being used: rapid assessments in conflict areas, market monitoring in programme implementation areas, general food security and security context monitoring, post-distribution monitoring, and gender and protection outcome monitoring. For more information, please see the information brief on mVAM in Afghanistan.
